Firth Bridge
Nahanni Construction was the successful bidder of the contract to supply and install a Bridge for BC Hydro. Nahanni successfully delivered the bridge while following environmental procedures and salvaging the fish from the fish bearing stream.
MINIMIZING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
To minimize disturbance to the stream, the stream water was dammed and pumped around the construction site to prevent debris getting into the stream.
REMOVING CULVERTS
With the pump in place, the culverts could be exposed and removed with minimal impact on the stream.
Laying Foundations
Concrete lock blocks were chosen as the desired foundation for the bridge. The bottom layer of blocks are shown above while the second row is shown below.
Steel Substructure
A steel substructure (above) fabricated by Nahanni construction was used to support the bridge deck.
The Bridge is In
With the steel substructure in place only the concrete deck remained to be put in place resulting int he final image you see at the top of this page. Fish salvage was successfully accomplished in this project.
